    This stunning oversized pair of Sterling silver cufflinks depicts the cameo – like head of a classical beauty in profile, perhaps based on an ancient Greek or Roman sculpture or coin design.  Highly detailed, from her dangling earrings to her upswept hair-do, the young lady’s chiseled features suggest an air of confidence and poise.  She may represent someone of royal birth or perhaps a goddess, like Diana (or Artemis to the Greeks), the Goddess of the Hunt.   The heads are in shallow relief against a textured ground and the cufflinks will look sensational on your cuff!
    Measuring about 1-3/8″ diameter by about 3/16″ deep the links weigh in at 55.5 grams.  They acid test as sterling silver.
    They are hand-signed and dated with an engraver “1964” below the artist’s name, I cannot make out but looks something like “G [or A]. Hairenium” on both backs.  (Please see the last photo for close-ups of the signature.)  I do not know who the maker was, but the workmanship and execution of these links attest to his skill.
    The cufflinks came to me from an upscale San Francisco estate and are in Very Good vintage condition with dirt, scratches and tarnish as expected due to age, as well as some surface “pocking” or light pitting from when they were made (that appears entirely in keeping with the suggestion of antiquity of the design).  They have a lovely vintage patina; cleaning and polishing are left to the buyer’s discretion.
    With an aura of the advanced civilization and romance of ancient Greco Roman history and ideals of beauty, these outstanding cufflinks are ones you will wear all the time.  Although I doubt you will want to part with them, they will come to you in a gift box, just in case.  This is a classic (and classy!) pair of big vintage sterling cufflinks that will make a fine addition to your collection of quality and distinction.
